Heat Wave 2022

In response to severe heatwave situations across several states of India in April, Sphere India with partners’ and local organizations’ support conducted a Joint Rapid Needs Assessment. The assessment was done in highly-affected districts of Bihar, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. The assessment report gives a picture of how the basic facilities like WASH, health, shelter, housing, education, and livelihood were affected by the prolonged and frequent heatwave.

Bihar Floods

Due to incessant rainfall in the state of Bihar, several river basins across 15 districts have been flooded, affecting more than 8 lakh people in 72 villages. The three most affected districts were East Champaran, West Champaran and Muzaffarpur. Sphere India, in collaboration with UNICEF field office and IAG Bihar mobilized volunteers in the affected districts and carried out Joint Needs assessment to identify the overall damage, emerging needs and immediate actions required.

Maharashtra Floods

Torrential rainfall in various parts of the state since 22nd July coinciding with high tides and discharge from dams led to floods and landslides across multiple districts in Maharshtra. Maharashtra PECOnet initiated the JRNA exercise to understand the most urgent needs in highly affected districts, by engaging 100 plus local volunteers from Maharashtra PECOnet member organizations with the technical support from RedR India, Sphere India and Unicef field office.
